What is MouseTester?
MouseTester is a classic Windows utility, originally written by microe1 and released open-source (MIT) on GitHub, that measures how your mouse reports movement. It plots xCount and yCount against time (or interval), so you can see your sensor's polling behaviour, spikes, and how consistently the mouse reports data.
It became the standard hobbyist tool in mouse-review communities for checking polling rate, sensor consistency, and motion behaviour — the kind of low-level data a normal driver panel never shows.

There are a few builds in circulation. Newer is not always what reviewers use — many still prefer specific versions for consistent readings.

How to read the MouseTester graph
- Choose a measurement (xCount vs Time is the usual starting point) and click Collect, then move the mouse steadily.
- A clean plot shows evenly spaced points — even spacing means a stable polling interval.
- Gaps or clustered points suggest polling drops, USB issues, or wireless interference.
- Switch to xSum/ySum or Frequency vs Time to inspect polling rate and how it holds up at speed.
- Compare against your mouse's rated polling rate (125 / 500 / 1000 Hz and beyond) to spot under-reporting.
