How to Identify Your Mouse and Buttons

What Mouse Do I Have?
When people ask "what mouse do I have," they usually want one of two things: the physical make and model, or a quick way to confirm how many buttons and what capabilities the mouse offers. A website cannot detect the brand or model of your mouse — the browser only receives generic pointer events, never the hardware identifier — so no online tool can name your exact mouse from a click alone. What a browser can do is report every button your mouse sends, your primary pointer type (a fine pointer like a mouse versus a coarse touch pointer), whether hovering is supported, and display details such as resolution and pixel ratio. That is exactly what this tool surfaces. To find the actual model name, check the label on the underside of the mouse, open Windows Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Mouse (or System Settings › Mouse on macOS), or look in Device Manager under "Mice and other pointing devices." Which Button Am I Pressing? Understanding Mouse Button Indexes
Every mouse button maps to a numeric index in the browser's MouseEvent API. Index 0 is the primary (left) button, index 1 is the middle button or scroll-wheel click, and index 2 is the secondary (right) button. Indexes 3 and 4 are the back and forward side buttons found on many gaming and office mice. If you press a button and nothing appears, the button may not be sending an event — a sign of a hardware fault, a missing driver, or a button remapped to a keyboard shortcut in the mouse's software. Left-handed users who swap the primary and secondary buttons in the operating system will see the physical right button report as the left (primary) button, because the swap happens at the OS level before the browser receives the event. Can this tool tell me the exact model of my mouse?
No. Browsers do not expose the make, model, or serial number of a pointing device to websites, so no online tool can name your exact mouse. To find the model, check the sticker on the bottom of the mouse, open your operating system's mouse settings, or look in the manufacturer's software (Logitech G HUB, Razer Synapse, and similar).
How do I know which mouse button I'm pressing?
Press any button while your cursor is over the detection box. The tool shows the button name — left, middle, right, back, or forward — along with its numeric MouseEvent index. This is the quickest way to confirm which physical button sends which signal, especially for the side buttons.
Why does my right button show up as the left button?
If your operating system has primary and secondary buttons swapped (a common left-handed setting), the physical right button reports as the primary/left button. The swap happens at the OS level before the browser sees the click. Change it back in Windows Mouse settings or macOS System Settings if it is unintentional.
Can a website detect my mouse DPI or polling rate?
